Perspectives on Social Media Marketing


1. Understanding the Process of Marketing
           
The thing that really made me understand how companies have successful social media campaigns is listening to the consumers and what they can improve on or fix. It’s also about getting the word out - What is your company’s message? What are they trying to promote? How will the consumers react? You have to pay a lot of attention to this because you’ll know if your business will be successful or not but how consumers react to your brand.

 

              
 2. Knowing the Difference Between Professionalism and Being Personal
           
For me, personally, it wasn’t hard knowing the difference on how to act with a company profile and a personal profile because you should act the same on both. Don’t reveal too much about yourself, meaning don’t post photos of you drinking and having fun with friends on either account because clients and employers will look at both. Don’t post a status that has any inappropriate words or content. You should always act like a nice, conservative type of person so you can attract the right audience. 


          


3. Don’t Only Look Out for You

            When I say this, I mean, help others with success as well. If you see someone struggling a little, help them out with either reblogging some of their posts or giving them a quick shout out. You can even do a collaboration with them if they have a certain product and you have a certain product that would go great together. Not only will they gain your following, but you will gain some of theirs as well. It’s a win-win situation.





4. DON’T Mix Friendship and Business!

            You’re going to want to help friends in any way you can, most people would help their friend out in any way you can. But there are boundaries, those boundaries are to not work with them. Not only will it possibly end your friendship but hurt both of your companies. It’s not worth the stress and frustration.


                  


5. What Works and What Doesn’t

            After doing all the readings and skill-building assignments in this class, I’ve realized that there’s never a right or wrong answer when it comes to social media. It’s really just trial and error and what works for that individual brand. Not all companies are going to be the same and that’s what makes each one so unique. Because Galore Magazine’s social media accounts is completely different than Mercedes’ social media accounts. One happens to be filled with sparkles and bright colors and the other happens to be dark colors and cars.


             


6. Hashtagging Has Always Been A Trend

            It’s no secret that hashtagging has always been a thing. All middle schoolers go crazy with them online. What hashtags are is another way to promote yourself and you can use them to describe your business. For example, if a company was to post something about their brand they would use # (then enter whatever word describes their brand). It’s a fascinating thing for sure. I have a professional Instagram where I post photos of me and what I do during that week or day and I use hashtags, so people can look at my posts and find me through there. It’s pretty interesting to know that there are apps that will generate hashtags for your posts too!
                  



7. Pitching Ideas

            Quick! You have twenty seconds to describe your company to an investor, what would you say in those twenty seconds? Basically, you should cut right to the point and say what your company is trying to bring to the world to benefit others, what you inspired you to do this - sometimes it’s a long story but makes it as short as possible, and how you want to achieve this idea. Remember, it all starts with an idea.
 









8. Websites are KEY, KEY, KEY!

            Going through this class (and others previous to this), I found out that websites make everything easier for everyone. It’s organized, you have all your material on a page. The key to making it work is having it accessible to consumers AND making it user-friendly as well. If an interested customer can’t access or work your website, it’ll not only make them less interested but they will tell others how your business is just by your website functions.

         


9. Staying Up to Date

            We live in a world now that we can refresh a page almost simultaneously, it’s really helpful to stay up to date on your website and social media pages to give out updates about your company. For example, when Kylie Jenner had her big release for Kylie Cosmetics, the whole world jumped onto her website - crashing it multiple times. Luckily for Kylie, she has a large following on her social media pages where she can inform her followers of any technical difficulties she might have when it comes to releasing new products.




10. Don’t Get Too Caught Up in the World of Social Media

            Even though, I talked about different aspects of social media. You can’t get so serious about it because, at the end of the day, social media will only be around for so long. Everyone has it but we can’t get caught in the storm because everyone at some point will make a mistake using social media - whether that be scandals, arguments, etc. It doesn’t define us but it’s a good tool to get your brand out there. You can use it to connect with family, friends, and old high school friends.
